Indiana University School of Medicine Junior Clerkship

The Fort Wayne Medical Education Program is an enthusiastic participant in the required third year Family Medicine clerkship for the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). We host 24 students annually, for their Family Medicine clerkship. Housing is furnished for students with primary residence outside of the region.

Past students have consistently rated their Family Medicine experience in Fort Wayne as excellent. FWMEP is consistently one of the highest rated sites out of all of the Family Medicine clerkship sites for IUSM.

Student-preceptor assignments for the Family Medicine clerkship are well thought out with careful consideration to the student’s individual learning style to ensure a good teaching match. The residents’ Thursday afternoon didactics are available for students to attend.  Many of these didactics include active learning in hands-on workshops, lectures, and case conferences.

It is a high priority to ensure a meaningful educational experience for IUSM clerks.  Additionally, we strive to showcase all that Fort Wayne has to offer for Graduate Medical Education. Many students who rotate with us as third year students on the clerkship, return to enjoy elective rotations at our location as well.
